She's the richest woman in a city built on billions of dollars, and she's got the trophy girlfriend to prove it. Business and pleasure tend to mix in the high-stakes world Adrienne Thomas breathes. As the co-owner of one of America's biggest corporations, the young billionaire doesn't have time to date... especially when her recent bisexual awakening leaves her more confused than her confidence likes to admit. That's why it was so easy to start dating her business partner's smart and gorgeous executive assistant. Amber Mayview made her intentions clear from the moment she first seduced Adrienne this was all about sex and money, a relationship of mutual needs and satisfactions. Now, months later, one of the most over the top same-sex couples has reached an impasse. Amber is no longer satisfied with the sugar baby lifestyle. The longer she stays with Adrienne, the more she falls in love with more than just her money. But for two women who should never be together to make it through this rocky patch, they're going to have to admit more than their love. They're going to survive ex-lovers, a media play that refuses to release them, and enough sex to burn down their city in sinful flames. Good thing it's worth it. For love, of course. (The money's just a bonus.)
On the Rocks Cynthia Dane Hildred Billings Books
Well, I guess I have a new favorite f/f romance. In many ways, this book isn't what I expected. Judging only on the cover, I thought it would be largely erotica without plot, and probably a rather quick read. Did not expect it to clock in at around 500 pages like it did, that's for certain. Or do have a solid backbone of character development and plot.
While this book does have a ton of sex scenes, it also has a very literary side. I would say the focus of this book is less the sexual/romantic side of Amber and Adrienne's relationship and more how Amber and Adrienne are developing as people together. How Adrienne, who is in her first relationship with a woman, is coming to understand what it is to be queer, how she relates to the queer community, and how Amber is learning that she wants a relationship that isn't just about sex and money. They're both changing, and they're learning how to negotiate what they want for each other. People say that you get a lot of "getting together" novels but not a lot of marriage novels. This is more like a marriage novel in some ways. It's about an established relationship and how it changes.
(They definitely aren't married, though. Too much of a hot mess for that. It's about fixing a dysfunctional relationship, not the wonders of a perfect one...which tbh is a lot more interesting for me.)
I really loved Adrienne, largely because I love alpha females who can be overly dominating and self centered. Which describes Adrienne fairly well (although that doesn't mean she can't be sweet or vulnerable when it comes to Amber). And I liked that we got more than half the book from her point of view, which I think is rare since usually the billionaire's beau is seen as the POV character since they're considered to be more relatable. But Adrienne deserves the POV time she gets. She's complex. She develops greatly within the novel. And also she's a bit of a power fantasy (we all want to be a billionaire lesbian in some corner of our hearts, amirite?)
I also loved the discussion of what it means to have one's sexuality in the spotlight. That you might not want to get politically and socially involved because it's kind of intrusive. But maybe you have a responsibility if you have a certain level of influence...but it's still not easy, and it's not an essential part of being queer. It doesn't always come naturally.
Overall, would recommend if you like queer billionaire romances! I know it's kind of a niche but come on, you know you wanna. ;) but also I would recommend to people who want to see a relationship not only form but develop, face challenges both internal and external, or who want to see struggles with public reception and political involvement. It's just...it's got a lot.

On the Rocks Cynthia Dane Hildred Billings Books Reviews
On the Rocks was a good read. Solid characters. Engaging story. Could use another editing pass for missing punctuation, wrong pronouns in a few places, rogue letters, even the wrong character's name is used in one spot. The author's style is a pleasure to read, the mistakes where not enough to pull me out of the story. I'm going to go ahead and give it a 5 star because I think everything positive still overshadows the editing issues.
This book cemented the fact I don't care for either authors writing style. That's on me, so check out their books and draw your own conclusion.
Formulaic and a lot longer than it needed to be. Also had significant grammatical problems and there were lots of plain old wrong words used throughout. To top it off, the writing was mediocre. This is the first book I've read by either of these authors, and it also will be the last.
As a potential spoiler........I'm not sure I follow Adrienne's two changes of heart nearer the end. They didn't seem true to her. Maybe when I read it again (and I will), it will make more sense.
But it was an excellent book, and I enjoyed getting to further know these characters we got to meet as minor characters in Hard to Get.
This story starts in a book I haven't read so I was really confused as to what's going on in the beginning. Once I got through that and past the shock and creepiness of calling someone sugar anything, I started enjoying the story. As a go with the flow (or commitment phobic, depending on who you ask) bisexual myself I liked their journey. The two women realizing they want more and not even knowing what more is let alone how to get it was fun. Finding love amid the calculated seductions, overindulgence and misguided gestures, among exes and predators was a great read. I liked Adrienne, she is funny in her increasingly self deprecating narcissism. Personal growth isn't always overnight or an epiphany.
Overall the book was just okay for me. I can stay overall the story I enjoyed, but felt as if it could have been shortened. My favorite part came at the end when Adrienne changed and started accepting everything. For me, Amber was whiny and wanted everything. I love a strong female character, but Adrienne was strong in business, but I didn't like her too much. She was selfish, but very focused on all the men. I got tired of hearing about that along with Amber only wanting money. I skipped majority of the middle part of the book because I became disinterested in hearing the same stuff over and over again.
This was a real surprise and I'm so glad I stumbled upon it. I'm not sure that the author will like this review, but her goes
I'm not going to go into detailed synopsis, but this book is basically about two superficial, narcissistic and selfish women. At first I thought there was no way in hell I was going to be able to get into the story because I didn't like these women. But, I stuck with it and I realized that these two unappealing women were actually really pretty bad ass because they did not pretend to be anything other than superficial and greedy. They are not nice women and they are completely unapologetic about it. When I realized that they are being completely honest with each other about who they are, it really freed me up to like them. I grew to adore them and respect each of them.
But wait, it gets even better. These two unlikeable women slowly begin to became likable as they begin to realize that there are simmering emotions underneath their relationship that is based on economic transactions and levels of prestige. As it turns out they have hearts and those hearts are filled with deep feeling. Adrienne is the perfect ice queen and Amber is the perfect gold digger, but both of them are whip smart and it shows in their banter. As their relationship evolves their characters become more three dimensional and it snowballs into a really satisfying read. I can't wait to read another book by this author.
